Temporary Public Artwork: Spots for City of Vancouver Public Art Program as part of Platforms: We Are Here Live Vancouver, British Columbia Dates: March 2022 Artists: Katie Kozak and Lucien Durey Project Description: For Spots, Durey and Kozak walked their neighbourhood searching for and gathering shattered auto glass that they cleaned and sorted. For the artists, this process was reminiscent of picking and cleaning berries, something they both grew up doing. The glass, after being cleaned and sorted, has an alluring appearance. It sparkles in the light, and becomes less recognizable – less easily associated with automobiles – allowing for new connections. These digital studies read at many scales, connecting to imagery of the cosmos, or to views of cellular structures.
